Mock-up Bouquets makes for an excellent wedding florist
Communicating through words to describe what one wants for their wedding florals risks different interpretations. The human mind is funny that way. When I had a photography client and they wanted a certain look, I knew it was essential to have them share with me their inspiration. My studio did artistic nudes and boudoir and those two labels can be vastly different so seeing what the woman wanted was essential in giving her exactly what she desired in portraiture.
I have the same method for wedding florals. I ask every couple for a link to their Pinterest board or images they have gathered inspiring them for their wedding decor. Some have a photo they want exactly copied and others that fall in between. And some I have to start from scratch. No matter, we eventually get on the same page.
Not often do I meet the bride and groom in advance. Distance, i.e. destination wedding, inherently prevents this unless the couple can visit in advance as part of their planning.
When I am fortunate to meet ahead of time my couple, I like to create a sample bouquet that shows the colors and possible form and size we discussed. Not only does this help our communication but gives me confidence to give the wedding couple exactly they dream of. Sometimes the flowers I use aren’t the ones for their bouquet due to different times of the year of flower supplies but by getting affirmation in the overall scheme of their flowers everyone can check flowers off their list.
A mock-up bouquet just supersedes a photo or verbal description and distinguishes the effort a good florist makes for you from an excellent partner you’re hiring to create your dream wedding.
