Are you a trend follower or leader? Some couples are planning weddings already in 2024! So what will we be seeing in the future with respect to flowers? Here are 5 trends.

Flowers Front and Center

Literally! We are talking about arches, trellises, and other floral installations that are full and dynamic to give that wow! This is where couples can go all out for their florals because they’re enjoyed by everyone and sets the tone for the rest of the celebration.

Color

For years the wedding flowers have gone towards all white and very pale hues that give an elegance and sophistication. Pastels will always be in for bridal bouquets. We are coming out of a period of Covid and colors are becoming bold and vibrant to put life back into our day to day life. Anyone see Valentino’s hot pink Fall collection? I’ve gotten a little bored with the ‘all white’ look and am looking forward to a 2024 wedding of violet and pink! So, hopefully more and more couples will embrace color and put it front and center in their floral decor.

Hanging Installations and Floral Architecture Statements

Unlike the movie of 2022 “Don’t Look Up”, you should be looking up at flowers hanging from ceilings enveloping the reception and creating a warm and spectacular ambiance. At a recent wedding this past September, I created gypsophila clouds over the honor table. Baby’s breath was everywhere creating a magical fairy-like surroundings for a stunning wedding! Hanging flowers on invisible strings have recently become popular also.

Dried and Pressed Flowers

All of us are trying to make less of an impact on our environment. Floristry has shifted to sustainable mechanics and reusing items or composting. Dried floral bouquets are becoming more and more popular because they tick all the boxes for sustainability. Pressed flowers are also showing their flat faces on cakes, menus and invitations. They’re no longer your grandmother’s bouquets!

Less is More Greenery

There is a misunderstanding with budget conscious couples that having greenery is somehow less expensive. Green stems used in bouquets or arches are as expensive or sometimes worse than flower costs. I’m glad to see this green trend change. Give me flowers! But sustainability is a priority and having live plants, potted herbs for table decor will be trending this year. Give a small pot of a scented botanic as a wedding favor to guests who can plant in their gardens.

But like anything that trends, it could be here today and gone tomorrow so they say. Doing what speaks to you no matter then trends is my advise but considering the environment by selecting in season flowers, locally grown if possible is always on point.
