Does Your Bouquet Have to Match Your Color Palette?

Probably the most important of your wedding flowers is the bridal bouquet. It will be seen in all your photos, accompany you down the aisle, complement your dress and make the oohs and aahs abound!

So since the bridal bouquet is one of the most important and main accessories, you might wonder if your bouquet has to match your wedding colors? Your bouquet should reflect your overall wedding theme, it is not, however, necessary that your bouquet includes all the colors you use for your wedding decorations.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when choosing the colors for your bouquet flowers!

Consider your dress and those of your bridesmaids. Here the colors should harmonize and create a flow between the flowers and the dresses. Your white dress can have some of the color from the bridesmaids’ dresses in your bouquet.

  • What is the season for your wedding? Certain colors are more available during different times of the year. Red roses are abundant in the winter months due to Christmas and Valentine’s Day. Mums are prevalent in the Fall and peonies, in their blush hues are found in late Spring early Summer. You can still have all white in your bouquet and then add some of the seasonal colors to compliment.

  • I have done more neutral colored weddings than I can count. I know neutrals are in vogue but when I see the bride’s inspiration and it is of all white bouquets or just greens I feel like she is  missing out on some fabulous choices of flowers! But that being said, going neutral with all whites or beiges allows for the color to be found in the linens and bridesmaid dresses.

  • I have a wedding coming up where the bride is using stunning and vivid colors with tropical flowers! I can not wait to design for her. And the wedding being in the height of summer only compliments all the tropical flower choices available! Orange bird of paradise, fuschia and lime green orchids, deep orange red hibiscus are just a few of the colorful flower choices. A bridal bouquet dripping with color and cascading flowers is my artist dream!

As you select colors for your bridal bouquet, remember too the shape and size also influences the overall effect. Color is just one element of the design. Talking to your florist and having her artistic suggestions will guide you in making the best choices and having wedding photographs you’ll love to view for the rest of your life!
