What would a wedding be without flowers? One can imagine forgoing a traditional cake or dancing or even a bar but flowers?More than the cost of the flowers, it is the floral design and arrangement that make the beauty of the wedding venue. This is why what you choose for flowers is as important as your choice of dress. Your personality, the season and style, just like your dress, have to be considered. A florist who specializes in only weddings will have put all their expertise into creating that perfect wedding. It isn’t just isn’t her flower knowledge but the overall design, feel and look of the wedding ceremony and the venue. You want to select a floral designer similar to an interior designer.
The wedding guests will be moving about, talking, admiring so creating a well decorated ceremony and venue is, in a way, your gift to them. It is saying, “I’m glad you came, look around and enjoy.” Will it be an indoor wedding, in a garden, a forest or a desert? Imagine the possibilities with flowers adorning these backdrops! The floral designer can help you interpret your vision, respect your budget and be creative and skilled.
Here’s what to ask your Wedding Florist:
Make sure they’re available for your date. It is never too early to ask. Wedding florists book sometimes years in advance.
You’re interviewing the floral designer for a job. You need their expertise and skills but you also want to be assured they have the experience and background to create your floral designs.
It’s always good at your first meeting to have either a Pinterest board of your flower vision or some descriptive words so that you can make sure the designer is a good match for your ideas. If you’ve not decided on a particular style of flower, then ask the floral designer what their aesthetic is.
Check out their portfolio. All wedding florists make sure to have good photos taken of their designs to not only preserve their ideas and designs but more importantly to show future couples.
Getting into flower selection details isn’t necessary at the beginning but asking the floral designer what kind of flowers they would select for your venue, season, theme and wedding color scheme is very important. This is especially important if you are very budget conscious. Seasonal flowers are always less expensive than out of season, i. e… The Poplular Peony!
What other decorative items does the wedding florist provide? This would include vases, mirrors, runners, lanterns and backdrops to name a few. If they do not provide these they may know who might be able to assist you.
Sometimes a different flower can be substituted for an expensive flower because they still give a similar look but maximize your budget. What does your designer suggest?
Make sure to ask about the florist’s terms such as date reservations, downpayments, extra fees for delivery and or set up, etc. If there is a minimum flower order or if they have packages, now is the time to ask.
What will the flower production be like? How far in advance do they begin the designs, how are they stored, when would they be delivered, etc. It is good to know the behind the scene details as this will assure you and give you one less thing to wonder and worry about.
