Max Your Wedding Flower Budget
I think the fluffy carnation gets a bad rap. So does baby’s breath and yet, would you ever refuse these flowers if offered them? Flowers are flowers and by definition beautiful! So, can you make more with your floral budget? Yes, if you allow your wedding florist to choose substitutes that give the same effect. Not one of your guests will individually identify the flowers in the bouquets! But the over all beauty they will remark upon. So, how can you stretch your budget and have a big effect?
Loving those long cascades of flowers that create a sort of waterfall or draping effect? Rather than fill with a lot of greenery which despite what everyone believes is expensive. Start first with a gauzy fabric that drapes and add the flowers. It will hide the holes and you use less of everything but still be beautiful.
Choose a single flower and make a statement with that one flower for your bouquet. Example; a bouquet of tulips. Tulips are economical and abundant.
If you have to have a high priced flower like a peony or hydrangea, strategically place them for their impact and don’t hide them amongst a lot of other flowers. Use them on the bride and groom chairs or just in one spot of the decor where they are really visible.
Remember as I mentioned above, greenery isn’t always cheaper
As much as we fall down the bouquet rabbit hole looking at Pinterest and the beautiful bouquets, they are extremely expensive and more than likely part of a staged photoshoot rather than an actual bride’s bouquet. So have your wedding florist create smaller bouquets. If everyone in your party has a smaller bouquet, it will all be proportional.
Centerpieces on every table? Why not mix it up a little? One table has an arrangement but another has votives and bud vases, etc. This reduces the cost and labor creating for example 10 centerpieces. Cut the amount in half and use a bud vase with the same flowers but a lot less in quantity. It also makes the venue more interesting with the sizes and shapes at each table.
Your floral designer will for sure have left over sprigs of flowers and greenery. Use these left-overs for your dinner guests’ place cards or tucked in their napkin fold.
Depending on the timing of your ceremony and reception, you could recycle the bouquets and flowers from the ceremony and decorate the dance floor or bar with the arrangements thus cutting in half some of this expense for decor.
Place tons of votives with small bud vases of flowers makes a huge impact and a cozy romantic atmosphere. Everyone looks great in candlelight!
Reuse the floral backdrop for the ceremony for your picture booth and give pictures away as a party favor.
Remember, Less is More!
